The Kingdom of Buganda has nominated Prince Abubaker Kalema to represent the Buganda region on the Ugandans on X (UOX) Cabinet.
In a statement dated June 1, 2026, and addressed to UOX President Gift Grace Achilla, the Kingdom, through Dan Munaawa, Chairperson of Yiyo Buganda Yange, praised the UOX leadership for engaging with concerns raised by Buganda's digital community.
“We congratulate you, Grace, on your appointment and thank you for your support as you take on these responsibilities,” the statement read.
Munaawa said the nomination followed consultations involving members of Buganda's online community and commended the UOX leadership for creating space for their views to be considered.
“We appreciate your willingness to consider guidance from the people of the Kabaka who use the X platform, and for giving us the opportunity to contribute to Buganda’s representation on your Cabinet,” the statement stated.
According to the communication, the matter was presented to the relevant leadership structures, which later endorsed Prince Kalema Abubaker, known on X as @kashumbar, for the position.
“After presenting the matter to the leadership, the council convened and approved Prince Kalema Abubaker (@kashumbar) to serve as the representative of the Buganda region on the UOX Cabinet. We will be pleased once this nomination is accepted,” the statement read.
The Kingdom also used the opportunity to challenge the classification of Buganda under the broader Central region designation within the UOX structure, arguing that the kingdom should be recognised independently.
“This should be corrected because this is not the Central region as stated. The area is the Buganda Kingdom and not Central, and it should be properly recognized as such,” the statement said.
The nomination now awaits a response from the Office of the President of Ugandans on X, which will determine whether Prince Kalema formally joins the UOX Cabinet.
